Barnsdale Hall Weddings: Debbie and Finlay
Kind words from comments on Debbie and Finlay’s Barnsdale Hall Hotel Wedding:
Thank you so much for our wonderful photos, you have captured so much joy and emotion and we can’t help but smile each time we look at them. From the moment we met you we knew that you were the perfect photographer for us. For two people that are not confident in front of the camera, you were able to make us feel at ease and your background approach made us feel so relaxed we hardly noticed you were there. We are so happy that we chose you to capture the memories of our special day and we will cherish them forever. We can’t thank you enough, and wish you all the best.
- Debbie & Finlay
J ust a few weeks ago I shot the Barnsdale Hall Hotel wedding of Debbie and Finlay. Barnsdale Hall is one of those venues that I always love to visit. An impressive stone building with a lovely wood panelled interior, the hotel is perched slightly above the banks of Rutland Water and offers lovely views over the reservoir and surrounding countryside.
When I arrived, Debbie was getting ready in the The Windsor Suite, a beautiful part of the hotel where Debbie had stayed along with her bridesmaids (Finlay’s sisters), the Mums and some close friends. It was the first time I’d photographed in that part of Barnsdale Hall, and I really enjoyed trying to find compositions that would allow me to show something of the character of the building while still telling the story of this part of Debbie’s big day.
Another lovely thing was that it was one of Finlay’s sister’s that did Debbie’s hair and make up, and the chemistry between them was great to watch. There was plenty of laughter and I had the feeling that the light-hearted atmosphere was the perfect antidote to any pre-wedding nerves Debbie may have had.
I caught up with a slightly nervous-looking Finlay at Barnsdale Hall Hotel’s Edith Weston Suite where the ceremony and reception took place. He was busy greeting guests and chatting with his best man and ushers who were clearly cracking the odd joke to keep those nerves at bay.
Meanwhile outside, guests were greeted by the sight of three lovingly polished, strikingly blue Subarus bedecked in white ribbons for the day. It’s fair to say that Finlay loves his high performance cars – thinking about it, it says everything about how much he feels for Debbie that for him, it was clear throughout that she was undoubtedly star of his day. But while he didn’t actually get to see it, he had cleverly planned for the best of both worlds when Debbie drove up from Barnsdale Hall in, you’ve guessed it, a lovingly polished, strikingly blue Subaru.
The ceremony was perfect – there were even a few tears when Finlay’s sisters read a poem they’d written for the wedding – and it was lovely to see how much the couple’s obvious love for each other created emotion in the onlooking guests.
With blue skies just about peering through the cloud and even the odd ray of sun, it was lovely for everyone to then go outside and enjoy a drink or two while taking in the views of Rutland Water. From there the day unfurled just as the couple would have hoped, with some lovely speeches, a great atmosphere and even some dance floor fun to finish.
I’d just like to thank Debbie and Finlay for giving me the chance to photograph their lovely Barnsdale Hall Hotel wedding and wish them the best of luck for the future.
