Weiwei and John’s Leicester Guildhall wedding
A Leicester Guildhall wedding is always something special: this characterful 14th century timber framed building is something of a hidden gem, right in the heart of the city, and made for a lovely backdrop to Weiwei and John’s wedding back in February this year.
When you meet Weiwei and John, it’s immediately clear that this is a couple who are very much in love and make each other incredibly happy. They first got together when Weiwei was visiting England from her home in China. John was so smitten that when Weiwei had to go back, John soon followed and their romance blossomed, eventually carrying them to their wedding at the Leicester Guildhall.
My day started with Weiwei getting ready with her daughter and clearly very proud father who had travelled from China to be with them. As far as I can remember, his beaming smile never left his face – his joy in Weiwei’s happiness was genuinely lovely to see.
When I arrived at the Guildhall, John was already chatting with guests while keeping a watchful eye on his dapperly dressed young son. I sensed a few understandable nerves, but as soon as Weiwei reached him and broke into a smile, the slight tension seemed to evaporate and as the pictures show, the couple seemed to enjoy every moment of their ceremony.
The couple’s joy in each other seemed to permeate the rest of the wedding and a warm, relaxed vibe set in as the couple and their guests gathered for a informal reception in an another one of Leicester Guildhall’s stunning wood panelled rooms. By early evening it was time to move on – the couple are planning a wedding party in July which I’m really looking forward to photographing – and as I left, the couple were still arm in arm, clearly lost in each other and the euphoric bloom of their perfect day.
