Launde Abbey Wedding: Alix and Chris
I love Launde Abbey. There, I’ve said it. It really must be one of Leicestershire’s finest wedding venues, yet it’s still something of a hidden gem. So I was delighted to get the chance to work there for the wedding of Alix and Chris. Nestled in delightful open countryside, it’s easy to see why Launde Abbey is used as a religious retreat – regardless of your beliefs, a more tranquil spot is hard to imagine. I had the feeling that this added something special to Alix and Chris’s big day – the whole occasion felt like a side-step from the hustle and bustle of daily reality, allowing the couple and guests to completely focus on the more important things in life – love, family, friends, and of course, having a seriously good time!
In keeping with such a picturesque location, the couple made for a glamorous pair – Chris looking truly dapper in a dinner suit and bow tie and Alix simply stunning in an art deco inspired dress, made, quite brilliantly, by her Mum for this very special occasion.
I started my day by taking a few shots of the location and then briefly joined Alix and her wedding party as they finished their make up and enjoyed a quick glass of nerve-dampening Champers. Then it was down to the chapel where Chris was doing a fine job welcoming their guests. As the seats began to fill the excitement built up – from the buzz among their friends and family I could instantly see this was going to be a lively and enjoyable day to photograph.
Thankfully, this is is exactly how things worked out – the ceremony was delightful and despite overcast skies threatening a downpour at any moment, the guests clearly enjoyed the drinks reception on the lawn in front of the Abbey and we somehow managed to get all of the group photography and even some portraits shot before the rain finally came down.
The reception was in a marquee behind the Abbey and just as I thought, it turned out to be a lively and fun-filled affair, punctuated by some rather funky novelty sunglasses, fine food, a drinking game involving golf balls, some great speeches and a fantastic slide-show put together by Chris’s best man and brother that had the entire crowd in stitches.
It really was a pleasure to be there and I hope I’ve managed to capture the essence of this amazing day in my photography. I’d like to thank Alix and Chris for the chance to meet and work with them and congratulate them once again on such a special and unforgettable wedding.
